Wandering Farm is a hand-powered vegetable operation, newly based in Kings County, Nova Scotia. We grow with ecologically sound practices on around 2 acres of land, managing over 50 varieties of vegetables and herbs. Our farming practices focus on minimal soil disturbance, zero use of non-organic pesticides or fertilizers, biodiversity, and hand-power over machinery wherever possible. For us, the best produce comes from healthy soil and is marketed as locally as possible.
Everything we grow is distributed within a 150km radius of the farm, and we normally practice same-day harvesting for orders. The difference this makes in the shelf life of our vegetables, as well as the texture and flavour, is undoubtedly noticeable. We absolutely love eating what we grow and hope that you will too.
We, Ryan and Jordann, met at Toronto Metropolitan University in 2015 while both pursuing Philosophy Degrees. In the summer of 2016, we farmed at GoodLot Farmstead Brewing Co. in Caledon, Ontario, learning how to grow, harvest and process a perennial crop. Following graduation we worked at Juniper Farm, a renowned vegetable farm in Wakefield, Quebec, to whom we are thankful for a lot of our hands-on knowledge of large, diverse market garden systems. After our time in Quebec, Wandering Farm was initially born back on the land of GoodLot Farmstead Brewing Co. where we established relationships with local restaurants and the Caledon community. In the spring of 2020 we moved our operation to Jordann’s family land in Huron East, Ontario where we operated a CSA program and sold to restaurants, retailers, and markets. In early 2022 we made the difficult but exciting decision to permanently move our farm to Kings County, Nova Scotia. Small scale farming for us has been a complementary marriage of our environmental views, ideal lifestyle and the overall health of ourselves and those around us.
